Save Enugu Group Congratulates Winners of Enugu LGA Polls, Reiterates Commitment to Advocacy for Good Governance
Frontline accountability watchdog and socio-political pressure group, the Save Enugu Group (SEG), has extended its warmest congratulations to the winners of the recent local government elections in Enugu State, Nigeria, advising the elected council chairmen and councillors to focus on delivering the greater good to the people at the grassroots when sworn-in.
While restating commitment to advocacy for good governance in the state, SEG’s Secretary General, Comrade James Ezema, urged the elected 260 political ward councillorship seats in the 17 Local Government Areas in the state to prioritize the security and welfare of the people, especially during these challenging economic times.
“As leaders at the grassroots, your focus should be on ensuring unparalleled development in rural communities across the state,” SEG emphasized.
The organization highlighted key areas of focus, including security — ensuring the safety and security of all residents; economic development — implementing policies that promote economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction; Infrastructure Development — investing in roads, healthcare facilities, schools, and other critical infrastructure; and Agriculture — supporting farmers and promoting agricultural development to ensure food security in the state.
The SEG also called on all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and community leaders, to cooperate with the elected officials to ensure a seamless transition and effective governance.
The Save Enugu Group encouraged aggrieved persons to seek redress through legal and constitutional means, never at any time resorting to self-help.
In the spirit of unity and progress, the SEG appealed to the winners to avoid the winner-takes-all syndrome. “Extend your hands of fellowship to those who contested against you, and work together to drive robust development across the state,” SEG urged.
“By doing so, the winners will demonstrate their commitment to the well-being of all Enugu State residents.”
As a notable watchdog in the state, the SEG vowed to continue to monitor issues relating to leadership and development in the state, assuring that it remains committed to playing its role in holding government at all levels accountable, ensuring that the interests of the people are protected and promoted.
“SEG will keep track of the elected officials’ performance, ensuring they deliver on their campaign promises,” the group vowed. “We will also engage with the government to address pressing issues affecting the state, such as infrastructure development, education, and healthcare.”
The SEG reiterated that its commitment to good governance and development in Enugu State is unshakable, explaining that by working together with relevant stakeholders, the group aims to create a better future for all citizens in the state.
