NDC Presidential Candidate Peter Obi Receiving Royal Blessings

OPI, ENUGU STATE — Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Eze-Igwe Williams Ezugwu, Eze Ka Eze I of Ideke Land and Eze Ogbozalla III of Opi Kingdom, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, describing the traditional ruler as “a true Nigerian” with a profound belief in the future of the country.
Obi, who disclosed this in an account of his recent engagements across Kogi, Benue and Enugu states, said the monarch received him warmly, offered prayers for him and bestowed his royal blessings on his political journey.
The former Anambra State governor said he was particularly grateful for the monarch’s fatherly counsel, encouragement and prayers.
“His Royal Majesty is a true Nigerian with a profound belief in the future of our country. He graciously offered prayers and bestowed his royal blessings upon me. I am profoundly thankful for his fatherly counsel, encouragement, and prayers,” Obi said.
The visit came at the end of a series of engagements by the NDC presidential candidate across three states, during which he interacted with party supporters, political stakeholders, traders, community leaders and other citizens.
Obi said his engagements began in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, where he met stakeholders and party faithful alongside the NDC’s Kogi East Senatorial candidate, High Chief Peter Ameh.
According to him, the discussions centred on the pressing challenges confronting Nigerians, particularly insecurity, healthcare, education, unemployment and poverty.
He assured supporters that addressing these challenges would remain at the heart of his political agenda, while urging them to remain committed to the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi also charged his supporters to turn out massively to vote and ensure that their votes were protected from the polling unit through the final declaration of results.
From Kogi, the NDC candidate made brief stops at Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State and Obollo Afor in Enugu State, where he interacted with residents and traders conducting businesses along the routes.
He said the encounters reinforced his conviction that Nigerians across different communities were united by similar concerns about their welfare and economic future.
“Across all these engagements, the concerns expressed by our people remain essentially the same,” Obi said.
“They seek security in their communities, meaningful employment opportunities for our youths, access to properly functioning hospitals and schools for their children, and the means and resources to lead decent, dignified lives.”
He argued that such demands should not be regarded as excessive expectations from citizens, but rather as the basic responsibilities Nigerians expect from a government committed to their welfare.
“These are not excessive demands. They represent the basic expectations citizens hold of a government dedicated to their welfare,” he said.
Obi also travelled to Okpo in Olamaboro Local Government Area, where he joined family, friends, church members and other guests to celebrate the 65th birthday of Evangelist Sunday Oguche.
He described Oguche as not only a preacher of the Gospel but also a community builder who had dedicated himself to serving God and contributing positively to the lives of his people.
The NDC candidate prayed for the celebrant, wishing him continued strength, sound health and many more productive years in the service of God and humanity.
The engagements, Obi said, further strengthened his belief that Nigerians were looking for leadership capable of transforming their everyday realities rather than making promises disconnected from their experiences.
He maintained that the challenges repeatedly raised by citizens across the three states were largely basic needs — security, jobs, functional healthcare, quality education and an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
As he concluded his engagements with the visit to the Opi monarch, Obi reiterated his belief that Nigeria could overcome its current difficulties if government was deliberately redirected towards serving the interests and welfare of citizens.
“As we move forward on this journey, our message remains unequivocal: Nigeria can succeed, and government can be made to serve its people,” he said.
“A New Nigeria is POssible.”
