Outsiders And Insiders Are Funding Anti-NYSC Protests – HURIWA Raises Alarm
Prominent Civil Rights Advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association Of Nigeria (HURIWA) has raised alarm that powerful politicians within and outside of the system in the Country have coalesced and concluded logistical strategies to immediately commence a series of protests which they have dubiously dubbed “Anti-corruption protests against the newly appointed Director General of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier General Mohammed Fadah.”
HURIWA in what it called ’emergency’ Media Statement confirmed that already, the amorphous group which called itself CIVIL SOCIETY ACTION AGAINST CORRUPTION has written the Commissioner of Police in the FCT Command to request for security cover so they can stage the first in the well coordinated and heavily funded public demonstrations with some paid to commence on Thursday September 8th 2022 at the Abuja Unity Fountain from where they are scheduled to proceed to the office of the minister of Youth and Sports Development to present a letter calling for the removal of the DG almost with same allegations they had raised earlier through a publication by Sahara Reporters a few days back.
HURIWA recalled that this same group of sponsored adversaries of the hierarchy of the NYSC had published a press statement claiming that the Anti-corruption Vanguard has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate and sack the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig Gen Mohammad Fadah, over alleged incompetence and corruption.
HURIWA in the statement endorsed by its National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko stated that it got an intelligence report that some powerful politicians who want to bring the new DG under their slavish control for their pecuniary gains or other outsiders with questionable credentials who couldn’t complete their NYSC’s postings long ago but now want to parade about for political offices claiming to have served in the NYSC scheme but who are aware of the foolproof strategic solutions put in place in the NYSC by the immediate past DG and sustained by the current DG to maintain sanity and ethical compliance have coalesced as a fighting force to try to demonise the person and character of the DG.
The rights group noted that by so doing they do not even care about the institutional damage that their thoughtless and tactless ideas might unleash on the almost 50 years old national institution of the NYSC.
“We also gathered via intelligence report that aggrieved people who felt they could enrich themselves through his office and could not succeed are the people behind this blackmail protest.
“This is not the right time the attention of the Director General should be diverted to negative things that will not yield dividends to the scheme he is superintending.
“The so-called protest is also ill timed in the face of concerted insecurity we are presently challenged with in the country”, the group said.
The rights group then warned “all the people concerned in this issue should allow the Director General to settle down to do his work and should stop distracting him unnecessarily.
“HURIWA has therefore called on Nigerians and all right thinking persons to take their unsubstantiated allegations with a pinch of ulterior, sinister and satanic purposes”, the statement read.
